How each AI girlfriend app remembers your life, what memory costs, and why she forgets the things you told her last week.
Reader-supported: when you sign up through some of our links we may earn a commission, at no cost to you. How that works.
You tell her about the job interview on Monday. Wednesday rolls around and she asks how it went. That tiny moment is the whole promise of an AI girlfriend with memory, and most apps fumble it. So I dug into how six of them remember things: what they save on their own, what you have to pin, what you can see, and which parts cost extra.

Memory features as each app describes them on its own pages, checked October 2026.
Nomi is the one people mean when they say an AI companion remembers them. Details land in different layers depending on how long they matter, so this morning's mood and last month's family drama each have a home. Underneath that is an Identity Core (who she is, who you are to her) and Mind Maps that keep track of the people and topics in your life.
The free plan, 50 messages a day, is enough to see it working. If memory is your main reason for wanting an AI girlfriend, this is where I'd begin.
OurDream hands you the controls. You pin what must stick, write instructions for how she should behave, and set trackers for running details: where your story stands, how she's feeling about you today. Long roleplay is where this shines, because nothing important drifts.
It's a Premium thing. The yearly plan comes to $9.99 a month and chat on it has no cap.
Replika remembers the ordinary stuff, and that's the point. Your best friend's name, which days you go to the gym, the trip you keep talking about: she files it away and brings it up again. Want to pin a specific message? That's the Ultra plan.
With Kindroid you do a lot of the remembering for her, in a good way. You write who she is and what she knows, and that written profile is what stops her from drifting between chats. People who like control love it. It's paid only now (no free plan since October 1, 2026), from $13.99 a month on the website.
Here memory means pins. You pick the moments worth keeping and the character holds on to them. Free accounts get 15, lite gets 30, and c.ai+ also saves facts for you and shows exactly what's in use. It's hands-on, there's no girlfriend mode, and for one romantic storyline it does the job.
Candy AI says it learns what you like and remembers what matters. It doesn't explain its memory in the detail Nomi or OurDream do, so I can't tell you much more than that. What I can tell you: it does everything else, with photos on request, voice calls and short videos, from $3.99/mo on the yearly plan. Good choice if memory is one item on your list rather than the whole list.
Every chatbot remembers the last few messages. Easy stuff, and the reason every new AI girlfriend seems brilliant for about ten minutes. Next week is where it gets hard: your sister's name, the job you can't stand, the running joke. An AI companion with memory worth paying for has to keep those, and apps go about it in roughly three ways.
The best setups use all three. The automatic part catches what you forget to save; the written part keeps her personality from wandering.
A couple. Nomi AI's free plan (50 messages a day) doesn't list memory as a paid extra. Character.AI lets free users keep 15 pinned memories, and its $4.99 lite plan raises that to 30. Replika keeps track of your people and routines without charging you, though pinning particular messages is an Ultra feature. OurDream AI saves its memory tools for Premium.
Nine times out of ten it's one of these. You mentioned the detail once, in the middle of a long chat, and it never got saved. Or the app only keeps so many pins and the old ones fell off. Or she does remember, but the conversation never gave her a reason to bring it up.
Annoying? Sure. A bug? Not really. It's how these systems are built, which is why the next part matters more than which app you choose.
Here's the trade-off nobody puts on the landing page. An app that remembers conversations from last month is, by definition, storing them. Nomi says chats are anonymized and not shared with third-party sites, and every app on this list keeps your conversations on its own servers. So the better the memory, the more careful I'd be with your address, your employer and anything you'd hate to see leaked. Tell her the stories and the feelings. Keep the identifying details to yourself.
Nomi AI. It layers memory from short to long term, keeps an Identity Core for her personality and maps the people in your life, and you can try it free.
The good ones do, just not perfectly. Nomi saves details by itself; Character.AI and OurDream AI lean on memories you pin. A single passing mention can slip through.
Yes. Nomi AI's free plan gives you 50 messages a day and doesn't treat memory as a paid extra. On Character.AI, free accounts can pin 15 memories.
Usually the detail came up once and was never saved, or older pins got pushed out. Put the things that matter in a pin, her backstory or an instruction.
It does, through pins: 15 free, 30 on lite, and c.ai+ adds facts it captures for you.
Prices, free plans and features on this page come from the apps' own pages and store listings. We re-check them on a schedule and when an app announces changes.
