Kindroid has a loyal following among people who treat their AI companion like a long-running character they're writing together. In October 2026 it also made a change that matters to anyone shopping around: the free plan is gone. I looked at what you get now, what it costs and where the cheaper way to pay is hiding.

What Kindroid is

Kindroid comes from Beautifully Incorporated, a company in Los Angeles. The idea is simple enough: you make a Kindroid, give her a personality, a past and a face, and then you talk, by text, by voice or on video. There's a website, and there are apps for iPhone and Android.

The appeal is control. Where some apps hand you a character and let it evolve, Kindroid expects you to shape it, and gives you the settings to do that. Adult roleplay is allowed for adults; explicit images show on the website but are filtered in the apps.

Is Kindroid free?

Not anymore. Since October 1, 2026, new users get a one-time preview: 50 messages, 5 selfies and up to 2 characters. After that your chats turn read-only until you subscribe. There's also a 3-day trial, but it needs a card, so set a reminder if you're only testing.

If free daily chat is the main thing you want, Kindroid has dropped out of that race. Nomi AI still offers 50 messages a day and Character.AI offers unlimited messages with ads.
